Over the past several weeks, many people have asked how Wyly, Candy, and I voted in the 2026 Gilmer County and State of Georgia elections — and more importantly, why we voted the way we did. After spending time researching candidates, listening to local leaders speak, reading through issues, and praying about the direction of our community and state, these were the candidates and positions that best aligned with our values at Ellijay City Church and the heart of City Church.
For the statewide races, we carefully reviewed each candidate’s platform, leadership style, and stance on issues affecting families, education, faith, and the future of Georgia. The local elections were honestly some of the hardest decisions to make. After hearing several local candidates speak and learning more about their goals for Gilmer County, we ultimately chose the individuals we believed would best serve our community with integrity, wisdom, and leadership.
We want to be clear: these are simply our views and convictions. You may have your favorites and thats awesome! We are not telling anyone how to vote nor going to enter in debates! We encourage every believer and every citizen to pray, research, ask questions, and vote according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Take time to study the candidates and issues for yourself and make informed decisions.
One thing we strongly believe is this: local elections matter.
What happens in Gilmer County affects the State of Georgia, and what happens at the state level eventually impacts our nation. School boards, county commissioners, judges, and local leaders shape the everyday lives of families more than many people realize.
Most importantly, please get out and vote. Your voice matters, your participation matters, and informed voters help strengthen our communities for future generations.
Here are two photos of my sample ballot. If you would like, you can print these out and take them with you into the voting booth. Poll workers will not allow the use of electronic devices while voting, so having a printed copy may be helpful.
God bless you as you prayerfully discover how your vote can help shape our community. My hope is that we will see a GREAT move of God throughout Gilmer County, the State of Georgia, and our nation. Please take time to research, pray, and most importantly — get out and vote.
